There are lots of programs performing detection and remote control of some functions of your smartphone, but they all tend to have a paid membership, and even if they have a free option, they provide limited functionality. But I have recently found one app which is free and provides quite a wide range of services – Android Lost.
First we need to install a small client app weighing approximately 180 kb from Google Play. After its launch there will be only one window with several options. Here you will need to provide the app administrative privileges and the ability to send and receive SMS messages.
The main tool for working with your lost phone is a dedicated web-service. Perhaps its design is far from being great, but it manages the tasks excellently. To get started, you need to log in with your Google account, because it is necessary for messages sending. After that you can start exploring the possibilities of service.
The number of functions of the service is huge, and they are all conveniently sorted into multiple tabs in the Controls. Here is a list of the most interesting of them:
Alarm - on your alarm the phone starts ringing and flashing heart-rending;
GPS - the location of the phone’s position on the map.
Phone Status – when you press this button the phone sends you detailed information about its status, including the model, battery status, imei number, and so on.
Message popup – display messages on the screen of your phone. So you can ask to get back your phone.
SMS post – with this feature you can send SMS from your phone to any other number.
Message Picture – clever feature that allows you to send a message to your phone, and when it will react, the front camera takes a picture and send it to you. Good opportunity to see the face of the new owner of your machine.
Lock phone – block the phone, and now need to log entering the correct digital code.
Call List – a list of all phone calls recently made. It may be useful if you need to find contacts of the thief.
Sound Recording, Front Camera, Rear Camera - you can make your phone record audio, take pictures by the front and rear camera. And the results are, of course, will be immediately sent to you.
SMS commands – You have the ability to control your phone sending SMS from another phone. The list of available commands is very extensive..
This is not a complete list of the servicefeatures, but it is quite clearly illustrates its outstanding features. Skeptics will say that if your phone is stolen it is usually completely shut down. But first, it does not always happen immediately, so that the chance of detection is still there, especially if the new owner wants to dig into your data. And secondly, Android Lost Free program gives some chances to return the phone, so why not to use them?
