A Wi-Fi HotSpot, sometimes called just HotSpot or Wi-Fi zone, is any area in which a wireless Internet signal exists and where you can connect your phone in order to get access to the Internet. Most of the time they are free, eventually they can be password protected and sometimes it could cost money to obtain the password and gain access to them. You can find them in places where people congregate, meet, hang out or spend time frequently: bars, restaurants, airports, parks in major cities, book stores etc.
Now that we are a little bit more familiar with the term, we are going to explain how to actually connect to a Wi-Fi HotSpot. Go to the home page on your Android device, hit the menu icon and tap on Settings > Wireless and networks. Tap on Wi-Fi in order to turn it on and when it does, tap on Wi-Fi settings. Doing this will show you a list of all the available networks nearby. The ones with a lock pictured next to them require a password, and the ones without the lock do not and you can connect to them immediately. If you have a password protected network that you connect to all the time, once you insert the password, your device will store it and you will not have to enter it the next time you try to connect on that specific network.
Once you have seen all the available networks, choose the one you want to connect to, simply tap on it, put in your password if necessary and click connect. This will start with the obtaining of the IP address and, when it has finished, you will be connected to the desired network. A Wi-Fi symbol is going to appear on the top of your screen signaling the strength of the signal and you can start surfing.
